MicroEssentials™ - Setting a New Standard in Fertilizer Technology

In today's agricultural environment growers need to seek new ways to effectively manage production inputs, particularly methods for increasing fertilizer efficiency. Over the years, Mosaic customers have requested products that include essential secondary nutrients (such as sulfur) as well as micronutrients (such as zinc). That's why our research and development team took on the challenge of developing a truly innovative product - a new form of crop nutrient that produces higher yields and provides greater returns to dealers and growers.

As this product's characteristics were defined, it was realized that a new technology and unique manufacturing process would need to be developed. The patented manufacturing process of MicroEssentials™ combines the correct ratios of different vital nutrients into uniform granules, with each granule formed much like the partial layers on an onion's skin.

The single granular nutrients of MicroEssentials get spread across the field more uniformly than is possible when the nutrients are added separately in a blend. Component segregation of the nutrients is eliminated. Single granule feeding means the sulfur and/or zinc are more evenly distributed.

MicroEssentials works better than other fertilizers for several reasons. First, the granules are formed in a way that allows plants to absorb them more easily. The granules also allow nutrients to be spread more uniformly, ensuring that each and every plant gets the nutrients it needs. MicroEssentials is a versatile product that works well as a starter, a direct application fertilizer or bulk blend ingredient.

The MicroEssentials line of fertilizer products provides a more efficient way to deliver crop nutrients needed to help improve a grower’s bottom line. The benefits of using MicroEssentials go beyond simple farm economics. Every MicroEssentials granule contains the nutrients required for optimal crop growth. And, improved nutrient uptake means less potential impact to the environment.

Three Formulations to Match Various Soil Fertility Needs
Mosaic has developed three different MicroEssentials products - MicroEssentials SZ, MicroEssentials S15 and MicroEssentials S10. Each one of these products was developed with the patented manufacturing process that combines the correct ratios of the vital nutrients into uniform granules.

MicroEssentials SZ (ME SZ) is a premium product designed for use on corn, wheat, rice and barley. Every granule contains nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur and zinc. The sulfur and zinc are more uniformly distributed in ME SZ, giving plants a better chance to get all of the nutrients they need. The average of 54 research trials across the Midwest show that using ME SZ increased yields by an average of 12.4 bu/A versus MAP and 14.7 bu/A versus DAP.

MicroEssentials S15 (ME S15) is a premium product for canola and forage crops that combines nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur. ME S15 delivers a profitable solution to the growing problem of sulfur deficiencies caused by higher-yielding crops; the steady decline in the use of low-analysis but high-sulfur fertilizers; and the decrease in free sulfuric acid that falls in rain. Compared with MAP, ME S15 has more efficient plant nutrient uptake and more stable storage characteristics, and provides equal or better yields.

MicroEssentials S10 (ME S10) is a premium product that contains nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur, but is blended in different ratios. ME S10 is appropriate for use throughout the United States and Canada for dealers and growers who don't currently use zinc or who use zinc in their starter fertilizer or weed-and-feed programs. Compared with MAP, ME S10 allows for more efficient plant nutrient uptake of phosphorus and equal or better yields.
